BNP Paribas is a French multinational bank and a financial services company with global headquarters in Paris. BNP Paribas is one of the largest banks in the world. Based on information from 2012, BNP Paribas was ranked as third largest bank in the world, as measured by total assets, by Bloomberg and Forbes. In 2010, it was the 18th largest corporation in the world, according to the Fortune Global 500 list, graduations are revenue-based, accounted for as the sum of gross income of interest and non-gross income . It was formed through the merger of the Banque Nationale de Paris (BNP) and Paribas (see below for the name of origin) in the year 2000. The company is a component of the Euro Stoxx 50 index.
The firm is a universal bank divided into two strategic units: Banking and Retail Services (which includes Asset Management, Custodial Banking and Real Estate Services), and Corporate and Institutional Banking.BNP Paribas' four national markets are France, Italy, Belgium and Luxembourg. It also has significant retail operations in the United States, Poland, Turkey, Ukraine and North Africa, as well as large-scale investment banking operations in New York, London, Hong Kong.
BNP Paribas escaped the 2007/09 credit crisis relatively unscathed, reporting a net profit of € 3 billion for the year 2008, and € 5.8 billion in 2009, both driven by the benefits of the negotiation in its Division of Corporate and Institutional Banking.
