The Kalyan Janata Sahakari Bank Ltd. has completed more than 4 decades of dedicated service to the people of Kalyan and its surroundings. From the beginning December in the year 1973, the bank has grown up well in a short span of 40 years with a business mix of over Rs. 2710 crores today.

With over 40,000 shareholders and a satisfied customer base of more than 3 lakhs, the Bank continuously strives to improve quality and set standards in customer service and become a 'Janata' bank in the truest sense.The history of the bank goes back to the year 1970 when the lawyer Bhaurao Sabnis and Shri. Vasantrao Purohit took the initiative, against strong odds, of founding a bank for Kalyan's predominantly middle-class class. It was around the same time that the Kalyan Peoples' Operating Bank had failed, which caused a serious discontent among the people. Raising a bank's capital stock was an extremely big task, but its determined and relentless efforts culminated in a modest start on December 23, 1973 at 180 square feet. Office with three employees, capital stock of Rs. 50,000 / - and deposits of Rs. 80,000 / -.

The first to sit on the Board of Directors of the Bank were Shri BPJoshi, Dr.PVKarkhanis, Attorney Shri Bhaurao Sabnis, Shri VGPhadke-Public Accountant, Prof.APPradhan, Shri SMOak, Attorney USSheikh, Shri ND Bhoir, Shri GSKadam, Shri VHPurohit, Shri WDSathe among others. The visionary zeal of these pioneers has catapulted the bank into a prominent cooperative bank in Maharashtra with a network of branches of 26 branches located in Mumbai, Navi Mumbai, Thane, Pune, Satara, Kolhapur and Nashik districts.
